Database Error Corrected

During past few days, there has been an intermittent error preventing some wellness entries from being recorded in the database.  There was no error message, but the data was not recorded in the database and it did not display back in chart or table.  This error had progressively gotten worse.

We sincerely regret the error.  It is now corrected.  There is a temporary fix in place and more durable fix is coming.

We also regret that the data that you were attempting log did not get preserved.  Please take a moment to review your data for last few weeks to see if it is missing some entries.  Please review your data between April 9th and May 22nd.

We thank you for using WeightChart.com

Wellness Resolutions

Have your New Year's resolutions related to weight loss and wellness fallen by the way side?

As with many wellness related entities, we see a major spike in activity at our website, WeightChart.com, at the beginning of the year.  Lots of new users, lots old users returning, lots of invitations, new milestones, and even requests to delete old data!  Everyone is resolved to tackle the weight gain of winter and the holidays.

By early March, however, most of the activity fizzles out.  About this time, late in April, we are down to the regular users who use our website nearly every day.

With the insights gained from more than 5 years of our usage data, we contend that you are best served by taking time for wellness each and every day throughout the year.  Simple acts of trying to be physically active and being intentional with your food can take you closest to your wellness goals over time; adding some activities to reduce stress can get you there.  You add weight over years and decades, it is best to not hurry to lose it.

Try logging your weight and wellness every day (on our site or others) over a year.  You may be surprised at the simplicity and effectiveness of our proposition!

Thank you for using WeightChart.com

Weight and Wellness through the Holidays!

The basic premise of our site is that tracking of your weight and wellness increases your focus on your weight and wellness.  This leads to wiser choices with food, exercise, and relaxation.

There is a remarkable jump in use of our site after the holidays.  Even though one hears about New Year's resolutions for weight loss, we see increased usage from new and existing members starting from December 26th!  Of course, this interest wanes within weeks.

We suggest continuous focus on your wellness.  At this particular time of the year, we say that tracking weight and wellness through the holidays may help you to be in better shape after the holidays!

Our warmest wishes!

Thank you for using WeightChart.com

Success Stories

WeightChart.com prides itself in being private. A vast majority of our users are private users that do not share their data with anyone. Some of our users share data with trusted family and friends.

A few users choose to share their chart with the world either on the featured profiles page at WeightChart.com or on their own blogs. Our ability to feature success stories is limited because we prefer that our users keep their data and success private.

As we approach our 4 year anniversary, we encourage you to explore some of the success stories of our long time users.

Do Not Delete or Wait

We would like to highlight two user patterns that work against our proposition.

First, we often get requests to delete all of a user data because they want to start over again. We reply back encouraging them to keep all valid data. We point out the slider control below the chart that allows them to select the range of data that is displayed. Almost always, we get an firm response back. Delete the data; I have saved it elsewhere and I just want to start over!

Second, we see patterns in our data where a users waits for a long time before returning to the site to log their weight. In most cases with a long gap, the weight entered after the gap is significantly higher than the one entered before the gap. In many of these cases, the user is simply waiting for a "better" number before entering it on their chart.

Our proposition is very simple. By entering and visualizing your weight and wellness data every day, you are able to better control the factors that influence your weight and wellness. You are more aware of them and your actions are influenced by this awareness. Many of our users describe our site as a mirror that keeps them honest. By deleting old data or delaying entering current data, you are just avoiding the mirror. It undermines the fundamental way our site help you. The data that you do not like is as important to enter as the data you do like.

We encourage you to enter your and wellness data on a consistent basis. We also encourage you to review your charts and notes on a periodic basis.

Thank you for using WeightChart.com

P. S. We always encourage that you review your weight and wellness plan with your physician and other wellness professionals.

Weight and Wellness After Holidays

We wish a Happy New Year to all of our users and visitors!  We hope that you have had joyful holidays.
There is always a renewed focus on wellness and weight after the holidays.  It is natural to gain weight due to abundance of holiday events that are food centric.  In addition to joy, holidays often add to the stress.

If you tracked your weight and wellness through the holiday, it likely lessened your weight gain rather than preventing it.  Some of the weight gain is easier to offset in the coming weeks.  Our experience shows that it is much more important to keep the focus on your weight and wellness during February and continue the rest of the year.  A large number of our users reduce their wellness tracking by March.
We encourage a consistent effort on wellness throughout the year!

Our Proposition to Employers

At WeightChart.com, we believe that we offer a compelling employee wellness proposition to employers. Employers bear most of the direct costs associated with employee illness including absence, lost productivity, and increased health insurance premiums. Yet, employers have little ability to influence employee wellness.

Wellness requires a constant and concerted effort. Quick solutions rarely help with wellness with any degree of consistency. We think that minimal costs of our proposition (along with similar from others) and minimal efforts can yield significant returns. Many studies have shown that wellness tracking is one of the most effective ways to positively impact health habits. Logging one’s weight (and other parameters) allows one to better understand the impact of foods, activity, and stress on wellness. This leads to better control of weight and wellness.

An overwhelming majority of the healthcare costs go towards chronic diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure, and heart disease. Obesity is nearing epidemic levels and it impacts many other chronic diseases. In addition to the costs, these diseases degrade day to day life experiences.

Even though employers are responsible for most of the direct costs associated with illness, they often have limited influence on wellness. Employees prefer not to engage with employers on wellness issues. Weight and wellness parameters are considered to be some of the most private data. Employees also are distrustful of insurance providers and are reluctant to participate in programs run by them.

Our proposition is that employers encourage wellness tracking by the employees without any attempts to access this wellness information by employer or insurance companies. For a very low cost, employers make available to employees WeightChart.com as a wellness tracking platform. Our belief that tracking helps wellness this is founded on our own data with findings of other major studies. We provide the employers and employees cumulative usage and performance data that shows the success of the program.

We invite you to explore, understand, and test our proposition at no cost. We think that you will be surprised at richness of returns on these small investments.

Our Wellness Proposition

Our proposition to individuals is very simple; wellness tracking helps wellness.

Many studies have shown that tracking is one of the most effective ways to impact your wellness. Tracking your weight, exercise, eating, and general outlook allows you to better understand impact of foods, activities, and stress on your weight and wellness. We encourage long-term view of your wellness rather than quick solutions.

Many of our users are on our site every day for less than one minute; some as little as 30 seconds. They spend a few additional minutes occasionally to chart, review and analyze their data. Because we do not have advertisements on our site, we are not trying to get you to spend more time on our site. Advertisement related priorities inevitably introduce noise.

We always encourage you to review your wellness program with your physician.

Network Restored

We sincerely regret our network outage.

The network is fully restored.

The outage was cased by actions of an AT&T technician. The nature of his actions made it very difficult to trace the error.

We will work towards adding redundancies to our network.

Again, we sincerely regret the outage.
